Whether you're a total newbie or a regular waxer, you've probably heard a few things about waxing that made you nervous or unsure. I’m here to clear some of that up!
Here are the top 5 waxing myths I hear in the studio — and the real truth behind them.
Waxing hurts too much!
Let’s be honest — waxing isn’t completely pain-free, but it’s also not as scary as you think. Most of my clients are surprised at how quick and manageable it is, especially with the gentle waxes I use and the calm, private setting at Pure Waxing.
Over time, it gets easier — and hair grows back finer and softer with regular waxing, which also helps reduce any discomfort.

You have to grow your hair really long first.
Nope! All you need is about a ¼ inch of hair — think the length of a grain of rice. In fact, letting it grow too long can make the wax more uncomfortable.
If you're unsure whether you're ready for your next appointment, just reach out and I’ll guide you.

Waxing causes more ingrowns than shaving.
Actually, the opposite is true. Shaving can leave behind blunt edges that are more likely to cause bumps and ingrowns. Waxing removes hair from the root, which means smoother skin and less regrowth over time.
And to help you stay bump-free, I carry Bushbalm and Koochi aftercare products — including oils, scrubs, and chemical exfoliants like Roller Rescue — that are safe for sensitive skin and specially designed to prevent and treat ingrowns.
Waxing is just for summer or special occasions.
Waxing works best when it’s part of your regular routine — not just something you do before a trip or event. Staying consistent (every 4–6 weeks) helps reduce discomfort, slows hair growth, and keeps your skin smoother long-term.
Plus, it’s one less thing to worry about when summer rolls around!

All waxing places are the same.
Definitely not! At Pure Waxing, you’re not just another appointment on a busy schedule. I’ve been a certified esthetician since 2008 and specialize in full-body waxing for women — especially Brazilians and sensitive areas.
My cozy home studio in Wooler is clean, private, and relaxing — and I use hypoallergenic, fragrance-free waxes that are gentle on even the most delicate skin. You'll never feel rushed, and I always take the time to make sure you're comfortable and confident.
