Taking care of your skin post-waxing ensures that your skin stays healthy, calm, and glowing. Waxing removes hair from the root, which can leave your skin sensitive and vulnerable. The process can cause redness, bumps, and sometimes even small cuts or abrasions. Without proper care, these effects can worsen, leading to infections or prolonged irritation.

Right after waxing, your skin is more sensitive and prone to infection. Gently cleanse the area with a mild, pH balanced cleanser (like Koochi body wash here in studio) and lukewarm water. Avoid hot water as it can increase irritation.


  • Use a soft cloth or your hands to clean the skin.

  • Pat dry with a clean towel; do not rub.

  • Avoid swimming pools, hot tubs, or saunas for at least 48 hours to prevent bacterial exposure.


2. Apply a Soothing Oil, Lotion or Gel


To calm redness and inflammation, apply a soothing product such as aloe vera gel or a pH balanced moisturizer with no harsh chemicals in it. Look for ingredients like:


  • Aloe vera

  • Chamomile

  • Calendula

  • Witch hazel (alcohol-free)


Avoid heavy creams or oils immediately after waxing as they can clog pores. I do sell a non-clogging oil formulated for intimate areas. Safe for after waxing and sensitive skin. (It's what I use before and after your wax).


3. Avoid Tight Clothing


Tight clothes can rub against freshly waxed skin, causing irritation or ingrown hairs. Opt for loose, breathable fabrics for at least 24 hours post-waxing.


4. Skip Makeup and Perfumes on Waxed Areas


If you wax your face or eyebrows, avoid applying makeup or scented products for at least 24 hours. These can irritate sensitive skin and cause breakouts.


5. Use Sunscreen


Waxed skin is more sensitive to UV rays. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 if you plan to be outdoors. This helps prevent sunburn and pigmentation.

Skin Care Tips to Follow in the Days After Waxing


Proper care doesn’t stop immediately after waxing. The next few days are important to maintain skin health and prevent complications.


1. Exfoliate Gently


Exfoliation helps prevent ingrown hairs by removing dead skin cells that can trap hair beneath the surface. However, wait 2 to 3 days after waxing before exfoliating.


  • Use a gentle scrub with no pressure or a soft washcloth.

  • Exfoliate 2-3 times a week.

  • Avoid harsh scrubs or chemical exfoliants immediately after waxing.


2. Moisturize Daily


Keeping your skin hydrated is essential. Use a light pH balanced moisturizer with no harsh chemicals daily to maintain softness and elasticity.


3. Avoid Heat and Sweat


For 48 hours after waxing, avoid activities that cause excessive sweating such as intense workouts, hot baths, or steam rooms. Sweat can irritate freshly waxed skin and increase the risk of infection.


4. Wear Loose Clothing


Continue to wear loose breathable clothing to prevent friction and irritation.


5. Monitor Your Skin


Watch for signs of infection or allergic reactions such as excessive redness, swelling, pus, or severe itching. If you notice any of these, consult a healthcare professional.


Can I Do Skin Care After Waxing?


Yes, you can and should do skin care after waxing, but it requires a gentle approach. Your skin is sensitive and needs products that soothe and protect without causing irritation.


What Skin Care Products Are Safe?


  • Mild cleansers: Use pH balanced, gentle cleansers.

  • Soothing oils or gels: Bushbalm or Koochi Oils, Aloe vera or chamomile-based gels are excellent. Bushbalm and Koochi are specially formulated for the intimate areas, non-clogging and safe to right after waxing and daily.

  • Light moisturizers: Choose non-comedogenic, pH balanced with no harsh chemicals.

  • Avoid: Retinoids, acids (like glycolic or salicylic acid), and exfoliating scrubs for at least 48 hours.


When Can I Resume My Regular Skin Care Routine?


Wait at least 2 to 3 days before reintroducing active ingredients like vitamin C, or exfoliating acids and Retinol products or have that ingredient in it should wait 7 to 10 days. This allows your skin to heal and reduces the risk of irritation.


Tips for Sensitive Skin


If you have sensitive skin, consider doing a patch test with any new product before applying it to the waxed area. Also, consult with your esthetician or dermatologist for personalized advice.
